NIA arrests suicide bomber's accomplice in Red Fort blast case

New Delhi: In a significant breakthrough in the Red Fort blast case, National Investigation Agency has arrested a Kashmiri resident and identified the VBIED bomber. The arrested man allegedly conspired with the suicide bomber to carry out the terror attack which claimed 13 lives.

Amir Rashid Ali, in whose name the i20 car involved in the attack was registered, was arrested from Delhi by NIA.

NIA investigations had revealed that the accused, a resident of Samboora in J&K's Pampore, had conspired with the alleged suicide bomber, Umar Un Nabi, to unleash the terror attack. Ali had come to Delhi to facilitate the purchase of the car used as a VBIED (vehicle-borne improvised explosive device) to trigger the blast.


NIA has forensically established the identity of the deceased driver of the VBIED as Umar Un Nabi, a resident of Pulwama district and assistant professor at Al Falah University's General Medicine Department.

NIA has also seized another vehicle belonging to Nabi. The vehicle is being examined for evidence in the case. The agency has so far examined 73 witnesses, including those injured in the blast.
