The NIA initiated its probe into the Rameshwaram Cafe blast incident yesterday. A team of NIA officials, led by IGP Santosh Rastogi, conducted a thorough inspection of the cafe premises on Tuesday to reconstruct the crime scene.
NIA took over the probe following directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), as the Karnataka government had not transferred the case to the central agency. Despite this, NIA officials from Bengaluru had previously visited the site to gather crucial information pertaining to the blast.
As per reports, NIA has conducted raids at two places in Tamil Nadu in connection with the case. The raids were being conducted in Chennai and Cuddalore. The NIA is working on a lead that that the Lashkar-e-Taiba south Indian commander Thadiyantavida Naseer had trained some youths in Bengaluru central jail and many of them are now out of prison.
Since March 2, NIA officials from Telangana, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu have been stationed in Bengaluru, closely collaborating with local law enforcement agencies and the intelligence bureau.
Although NIA has refrained from issuing an official statement, it is anticipated that raids on the suspects' premises will be conducted.
Meanwhile, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) continues its parallel investigation, having interrogated five suspects thus far, all of whom were subsequently released. In addition, CCB sleuths have undertaken visits to various shops on SP Road, presenting images of the bomb components recovered from the crime scene, including batteries and timers, obtained from CCTV footage.
During these visits, shopkeepers were questioned regarding recent purchases of such devices, but no conclusive leads were obtained. Consequently, investigators suspect that the components might have been procured through online channels.
Furthermore, CCB sleuths have extended their inquiry to various places of worship, seeking information on individuals captured by the cafe's CCTV cameras. This multifaceted approach underscores the authorities' commitment to unraveling the complexities surrounding the Rameshwaram Cafe blast.
