During open hearings, the concerned officers are asked to be present so that appropriate relief could be recommended to the victims of human rights violation on the spot. The open hearings also facilitate sensitization of the government functionaries at various levels on human rights issues and to expedite the submission of reports in different matters of human rights violations as asked by the Commission.
NHRC stated post COVID restrictions, the first public hearing is starting at Shillong to hear complainants from the States of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura on 14th and 15th December, 2021. It will be followed by the public hearing of the complaints of alleged human rights violation from the people in the States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Sikkim at Guwahati on 16th and 17th December, 2021.
The Commission had already issued a public notice through the concerned State governments for the information of the people to send complaints of alleged human rights violation by a public servant or of negligence by a public servant in prevention of such violation to the Commission by Registered Post/Speed Post or through email by 27th November, 2021.
