The announcement was made during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
Speaking on the occasion Goyal said that new and upcoming skilling centre can train and skill 1 lakh people and make them ready for jobs.
An acute shortage of skilled talent is one of the major challenges facing corporates in India – with the deficit being more pronounced in the newer and sunrise sectors - that could potentially delay projects and impact growth strategies.
The new Centre of Excellence to be set up in the northern Mumbai suburb of Borivali aims to provide skill development training young individuals to lakhs of youth over the next three years across various sectors.
The Centre will be set up, with support from the CII, under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has agreed to allocate 50,000 sq. ft. of space for the training center and 20,000 sq. ft. for a hostel. The Centre is expected to be operational within 6-8 months, once the necessary approvals are in place.
