New Covid-19 cases breach 4000-mark in Karnataka in second wave

The latest count takes the active caseload to 28,248. Among them 266 are in the ICU. The discharges were just about 1492 cases.

Karnataka on Wednesday breached the 4000-case mark in fresh Covid-19 cases after the outbreak of the second wave, by reporting 4225 cases. There were 26 Covid deaths, but the case fatality rate (CFR) was low at 0.61%, keeping it below 1%, the benchmark the government always targeted.

The positivity rate, however, has been gradually inching up, touching 3.89% on Wednesday. The latest count takes the active caseload to 28,248. Among them 266 are in the ICU. The discharges were just about 1492 cases.
The government has stepped up RT-PCR tests, taking it beyond one lakh a day.


Bengaluru Urban reported 2928 cases on Wednesday with 18 deaths. Mysuru (142), Kalaburgi (137) and Tumakuru (138) were the only districts that recorded new cases in triple digits. Bagalkote, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagara and Haveri reported fresh cases in single digit.
