Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's statue should reflect grandeur of his personality, says Kin

Subhas Chandra Bose's family proposed on Saturday that Netaji's statue at India Gate in New Delhi should reflect the grandeur of his personality and ideally should be in the posture of "reading the 'Proclamation of the Provisional Government of United free India", on 21st October 1943. "It would be the ideal way to portray Netaji reading the proclamation in 1943 and not in the saluting posture," Netaji's kin Chandra Kumar Bose told ET.

Chandra Bose is also the member of Central Committee-Netaji 125th Birth Anniversary Celebration which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Netaji's family has reservations about the salute posture in the hologram statue. "The hologram statue of Netaji, which was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi, was in a saluting posture. Of course, he saluted but why will Netajisalute 365 days a year?" questioned Chandra Bose. Lyricist Javed Akhtar also raised similar reservations. "The idea of Netaji statue is fine but the choice of the statue is not right all day the traffic will be moving around it and the Statue will be standing in the pose of a salute It is below his dignity It should be either sitting or raising his fist as if raising a slogan," tweeted Akhtar.

Chandra Bose has written a letter to the PM urging him to discuss the statue-related details through a virtual meeting for "the statue aesthetics and design". "I have proposed the statue with Netaji reading the 'Proclamation of the Provisional Government of United free India ,21st October 1943 of Azad Hind, and declaration of freedom. There is a similar portrait of Netaji in Parliament declaring war against the British raj," Bose told ET. Chandra Bose also tweeted, "Open Letter to the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi. It's imperative to project #NetajiSubhasChandraBose's gigantic personality through the Statue being made. Request the aesthetic design of the statue is discussed at the High Level Central Committee Chaired by PM."
