In a major change, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there is need to start measuring GDP at the district level.

Addressing the Deputy commissioners conference Sarma said, “ We are bringing large scale changes at the district unit. DC must not get involved in routine administration work but must spend time on the overall progress of the district across key developmental parameters.”

He added, “To streamline administrations, we are linking every constituency to just one circle office. We want to synchronize both revenue work and developmental work.”

Sarma said, “We need to start measuring GDP at the district level. The DC has to function as the Chief Secretary and Guardian Minister as the CM of the district. This is a mind-set we want to implement.”

The chief minister added, “My first priority is to bring uniform development in all districts. Once we make an assessment, I want DC's from less performing ones to visit their high performing counterparts.”
