Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman stressed on the need for assessment of the $100-billion commitment per year from developed countries to developing countries under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

During a meeting with John Kerry, special presidential envoy for climate in the US government, on Tuesday Sitharaman also underscored the need to enhance these financial flows to developing countries beyond $100 billionn to strengthen climate action, the finance ministry said in a series of Twitter posts Tuesday after the meeting. “India is among few countries on track towards Paris Agreement goals and has taken decisive actions in fighting climate change,” the finance minister told Kerry. She also emphasised that the focus on climate change should be both on mitigation and on strengthening adaptation measures.
