The National Commission for Minorities would submit a report to the Centre on the Jahangirpuri violence soon, officiating chairperson Syeda Shahezadi has said. The commission has sent a team to Jahangirpuri and NCM would ensure that the report recommended punishment of the guilty, she said. Incidentally, five people from a minority community were arrested under NSA by the Delhi Police for the Jahangirpuri violence, while it withdrew a statement and let off a VHP functionary after questioning.

"The minorities commission has visited the spot and we will submit our report to the Government of India. Whosoever has done wrong should be punished. We always take cognisance of such incidents," Shahezadi said. She alleged that some people had a mindset to destroy the country. "India is our country, and we are all Indians. Some people want to divide us, but we should not pay heed to them and focus on development," Shahezadi said.

On incidents of targeted violence against Muslims she said, "some incidents happen across the country. But we should not make it into an agenda. Whosoever has done wrong should be punished. Everybody has a role to play in the development of this country. We have to work unitedly. If there is any such thing (genocide) happening in our country, I would not have been here with you. Some people have a certain mindset and want to feed a particular narrative." She was on a four-day visit to Kashmir and is likely to visit Jammu in a few months to take a detailed review of the situation of minorities there.

"Some Sikh community members complained that they were not given a minority certificate. We have received such complaints from Bihar and other places as well," she said.
