NCC Directorate North Eastern Region posted in X, “In the true spirit of jointmanship and commitment towards the safety of youth, 132 NCC cadets attending the NER Flying Camp at Imphal (11–20 May 2026) are undergoing emergency evacuation to Guwahati & Jorhat by the Indian Air Force, amidst the prevailing security situation and restrictions on road movement.
The evacuation has been planned by NCC NER Directorate in consultation with HQ_DG_NCC and in coordination with HQ Eastern Air Command. The swift and timely action ensured that the cadets safely reached their destinations in time for their examinations, bringing immense relief and happiness to their parents. The NCC cadets have also conveyed their heartfelt gratitude for the care, support and timely assistance extended to them.Special thanks to Raksha Mantri ji, The Ministry of Defence and the Indian Air Force for their unwavering support, prompt response and steadfast commitment towards the safety and well-being of the cadets.”

Due to the hostage crisis Manipur is reeling under bandhs and economic blockades.Both Naga and Kuki dominated areas are witnessing economic blockade and bandhs. More than 2,000 trucks continue to remain stranded on National Highway-2 in Manipur. Abductions happened following the incident on May 13 when unknown armed miscreants had ambushed civilian vehicles resulting in the deaths of three civilians and injuring four others.
The apex body of Nagas in Manipur, the United Naga Council (UNC), claims that six males are in captivity of Kuki groups. Kuki groups claim that 14 people of their community are missing and are in captivity of Naga groups.
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), one of the apex bodies of the Kuki tribal community extended the ongoing shutdown across Kuki-Zo inhabited areas by another 48 hours to protest the continued detention of 14 members of their community by rival groups since May 13. This was the fourth such extension.

Youth Congress in Manipur staged a protest in Imphal alleging government failure in dealing with Manipur’s situation.At least six members of the Manipur Youth Congress on Saturday afternoon banged the gates of the chief minister's bungalow here to symbolically "wake the CM up" and demanded the immediate release of civilians held hostage by militants.
