NCB Imphal Zonal Unit successfully intercepted a major drug consignment originating from Haichin city of Myanmar. This led to the recovery of 7.312 kg of high-grade heroin, concealed inside 638 soap cases. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 15 crore in the illicit international market. Two people were arrested.
NCB in statement stated owing to sustained vigilance and tightened enforcement on traditional routes, drug trafficking networks have been forced to abandon conventional corridors and increasingly resort to dense forest tracks and riverine routes to evade detection. This evolving modus operandi has been observed consistently across the region.
In a related development underscoring this trend, NCB Guwahati Zonal Unit had last month intercepted and seized approximately 7 kg of heroin at Jiribam, reflecting the shifting trafficking patterns and the effectiveness of enhanced inter-zonal coordination and intelligence-led operations.
The statement against this backdrop, acting on specific intelligence developed over an extended period, NCB Imphal Zonal Unit mounted a swift operation and dismantled an international drug trafficking module operating from Myanmar to Manipur.
NCB Imphal intercepted a vehicle near the Indo-Myanmar border and apprehended two individuals, Ginkhawmlian and Mangboi Simte.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the seized drugs originated from Haichin, Myanmar, and were trafficked through forest corridors in Manipur to bypass urban surveillance, police checkpoints, and security camps. The operation was conducted in close coordination with the Assam Rifles.
