Akhil contested in absentia while he was in jail and won from Sibsagar assembly seat in recently held assembly polls.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary chargesheet against jailed Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi.

This case pertains to Chandmari police station in Guwahati. Recently he was discharged of case in Chabua police station.

Akhil said it is a conspiracy to keep him behind the bars.Jailed peasant leader Akhil was arrested for sedition charges in 2019 during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest in Assam. He was also slapped with charges for setting up bases for Maoist.


The NIA court discharged him of charges against him in a case registered at Chabua police station. Akhil was charged with leading the mob to attack a police station and destroying government properties.

Akhil contested in absentia while he was in jail and won from Sibsagar assembly seat in recently held assembly polls.

NIA has filed supplementary chargesheet based on a protected witness.

Gogoi in a letter written in Assamese he stated these are nothing but conspiracies to keep me behind bars.

Gogoi has been charged under various charges including Sections 120B, 124A, 153B IPC and Sections 18 and 39 of the UAPA.
