New Delhi: On his first visit to the United States in his third term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held extensive conversations with outgoing US President Joe Biden and attended the Quad Summit, with a focus on strengthening defence, technology, commerce, and Indo-Pacific partnership.

Modi and Biden held extensive discussions to assess their "comprehensive global strategic partnership," which includes more than 50 bilateral engagement mechanisms.

The meetings and Quad Summit took place in Biden's hometown, Wilmington, Delaware.

Mira Rapp-Hooper, White House National Security Council Senior Director for East Asia and Oceania, remarked ahead of the Summit that the United States regards India as a leader within the Quad and appreciates New Delhi's position in the four-nation grouping.

On Friday, a bipartisan group of American politicians announced the formation of the Quad Caucus in the US Congress. The Quad Caucus was announced by Congressman Ami Bera, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Indo-Pacific Subcommittee, Congressman Rob Wittman, and Senators Tammy Duckworth and Pete Ricketts, both of whom serve on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Quad's constructive agenda centred on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, delivering public goods, and prioritising peace, prosperity, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The reference to Ukraine in the Joint Statement sparked intense talks between India and the remaining three members in the run-up to the Summit. India has maintained a consistent posture of engagement and diplomacy, including Russia's participation in peace talks to settle the Ukraine conflict.
