Deolapar police in Nagpur rural received information about an accident on a forested stretch of the highway. However, when they reached the spot, there was no vehicle or injured person present.
Viral video leads to identification
Police said they had filmed the video before intercepting the two-wheeler. Nagpur city, rural, and highway police coordinated to trace the rider after he did not stop near Khumari Toll Naka. He was later found at his home.The man was identified as Amit Bumra Yadav, 36, from Lonara near Nagpur under Koradi police limits. He hails from Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh. His wife, Gyarshi Yadav, 35, was the accident victim.
Police said Amit and Gyarshi were travelling from Lonara to their native village Karanpur in Lakhnadon, Madhya Pradesh, when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle between 2.30pm and 3.00pm near Deolapar. Gyarshi fell on the road, where the truck ran over her before speeding away. Amit sustained injuries in the crash.
No help from passing vehicles
Although Amit pleaded for help from passing motorists, none of them stopped. With heavy rain and no assistance, he tied his wife’s body to the motorcycle’s pillion seat and rode back towards Lonara.A police van later intercepted him and took the body to Indira Gandhi Medical College in Nagpur for a post-mortem. “The body has been sent for post-mortem, and we are awaiting the report to register a case,” said SP Rural Harssh A Poddar.
Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Additional SP Anil Mhaske is supervising the investigation.
