Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio meets Home Minister Amit Shah, seeks intervention on state's developmental aspirations

Guwahati: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and discussed various issues concerning the state.

The Chief Minister stated in X, said: “We met the Home Minister Shah to request his intervention and support in fast-tracking Nagaland’s developmental aspirations.” “Grateful for his continued guidance and support towards Nagaland’s progress and development,” Rio said.

Taking to social media platform X, Deputy CM Patton wrote: “Met with Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji today in New Delhi, along with Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio. We had a meaningful discussion on matters concerning Nagaland, including the state’s development priorities and the welfare and aspirations of our people. Grateful to the Hon’ble Union Home Minister for his time and continued attention towards Nagaland.”


Meanwhile, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly last week unanimously adopted a government resolution urging the Centre to urgently review and withdraw the Protected Area Permit (PAP) regime currently applicable to the state and restore the earlier relaxation.

The resolution highlighted Nagaland’s peaceful environment and its growing potential for tourism, culture, investment, entrepreneurship and international engagement. The House noted that tourism, along with the service and creative sectors, has emerged as an important source of employment and livelihood, particularly for the youth.

The Assembly also noted that civil society organisations, tribal bodies, tourism stakeholders, entrepreneurs and other sections of Naga society have repeatedly expressed their desire for the withdrawal or relaxation of the PAP regime. The PAP, imposed in Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram, under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order, 1958, regulates and restricts the entry of foreign nationals into designated areas.
