The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has formed a special squad to monitor and act against illegal constructions in Diva and Mumbra, officials said on Sunday.

There have been several complaints of unauthorised constructions in Diva and Mumbra areas, they said.

TMC Commissioner Saurabh Rao has given instructions to form a special team to curb unauthorised constructions, a release from the civic body said.

The decision was announced after a high-level review meeting held on Saturday, where the commissioner emphasised the urgent need to address violations, especially in areas witnessing rampant construction activities, it said.

As per the high court's orders, action was being taken in all ward committee areas against illegal constructions. So far, action has been taken against 227 such constructions and 24 cases have been registered, the TMC said.

In light of the ongoing monsoon and the risks posed by dilapidated buildings, the TMC has also issued a directive to evacuate residents from unsafe structures immediately, the release said.
