Mumbai sets new speed limits on major roads and flyovers from today. Check details here

The Mumbai Traffic Police has revised speed limits on nine major roads and some flyovers in the city with effect from December 13. The city traffic police said the move was done to "prevent danger, obstructions and inconveniences to the public." The speed limit will apply to all types of vehicles. "The roads shall be permanently declared 'Speed Limits' on all types of vehicles in the jurisdiction of Greater Mumbai with effect from Date 13/12/2023 from 00-00 hrs. onwards till further order," the Mumbai traffic police said.

P.D Mello Road and Shahid Bhagat Singh Road have a speed limit of 50 kmph. Similarly, the speed limit on Godrej Junction to Opera House and Maharshi Karve Road is also set at 50 kmph. Haji Ali Junction to Mahalaxmi Railway Station, Keshavrao Khade Marg has a speed limit of 50 kmph as well.

Moving on to other roads, from Bindu Madhav Chowk to Dr. Keshav Balram Hedgewar Chowk (Love Grove) Junction, Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road has a maximum speed limit of 60 kmph. On Diamond Junction to MTNL Junction, Avenue -1 BKC, the speed limit is also 60 kmph.


Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) has different speed limits in different sections. At stop, slope of bridge ramps, turns, and curves, the speed limit is 30 kmph. However, on the East and West bounds of the JVLR bridge, the speed limit is higher at 70 kmph.

When it comes to flyovers, the Veer Jijamata Bhosale Flyover in Chembur has a speed limit of 40-60 kmph. On the ascend and descend of the flyover bridge, the speed limit is set at 40 kmph. The flyover at Chheda Nagar also has a speed limit of 40-60 kmph, with the same limit on the ascend and descend of the bridge.The Amar Mahal Flyover in Chembur has a speed limit of 40-70 kmph, with a maximum of 40 kmph on the ascend and descend of the bridge.

According to an official statement, these speed limits have been put in place to ensure the safety of commuters and reduce the risk of accidents on these roads and flyovers.

The maximum speed limit to drive or allow the vehicles to be driven in Greater Mumbai, 'Speed Limits' shall be as mentioned below.

1. P.D Mello Road, Shahid Bhagat Singh Road ( 50 kmph)
2. Godrej Junction to Opera House, Maharshi Karve Road ( 50 kmph)
3. Haji Ali Junction to Mahalaxmi Railway Station, Keshavrao Khade Marg ( 50 kmph)
