India has reported 13,154 new Covid cases and 268 deaths in 24 hours. The Omicron tally in the country has risen to 961, as per govt data. Active Covid caseload has jumped to 82,402.
Mumbai witnessed a significant surge in fresh coronavirus cases yet again today with 3,671 infections - 46% higher compared to yesterday. Out of the total cases in the city, Dharavi has recorded 20 cases, the highest since May 18.

Earlier today, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray met the state's Covid task and took stock of the overall preparedness in the state. One of the key discussions at the high-level meeting was on the new variant that is believed to be driving up the infections in the state, which has the highest overall cases in the country.

The health ministry on Thursday said India reported over 10,000 cases after over a month and there’s a need to be extra vigilant. The government also said that the world reported 58 Omicron deaths. As many as 961 Omicron cases have been reported in India so far, and of these, 320 patients have recovered.
