Mumbai Rain: IMD issues warning; Check weather, traffic and train alerts
This year's monsoon onset was two days earlier than usual, with widespread pre-monsoon rains experienced in Kerala. Many parts of Mumbai witnessed heavy rainfall on Sunday night leading to severe waterlogging in different areas.
The heavy rains on Sunday resulted in water-logging in several areas, including Byculla, Sion, Dadar, Mazgaon, Kurla, Vikhroli, and Andheri. This severely impacted vehicular movement, causing long traffic jams. Local train services, the city's lifeline, were also delayed due to water accumulation on tracks at various locations.
In the 24-hour period ending at 8 am on Monday, the island city recorded an average rainfall of 99.11 mm. Eastern Mumbai received 61.29 mm, while the western parts registered 73.78 mm, according to an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The IMD has predicted a cloudy sky with the possibility of thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rains in the city and suburbs on Monday. Although Mumbai witnessed overcast skies, most parts of the city had no rain since Monday morning.
Visuals depicted vehicles stuck in waterlogged streets due to the downpour.
According to the latest BMC update, the entire BMC administration and workforce exerted continuous efforts to clear rainwater accumulated in certain low-lying regions due to heavy rainfall, ensuring the smooth functioning of Mumbai. Consequently, the water subsided swiftly, and the situation remained manageable.
In terms of traffic and train alerts, it was reported that both road traffic and suburban railways are operating without any disruptions.
