Amidst heavy rains lashing the city of Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Wednesday declared a holiday for all schools for July 20. Primary, secondary and high schools of all managements have been asked to be shut keeping in mind the safety of the students, it said.

"Due to the ongoing heavy rainfall and orange alert in Mumbai, considering the safety of students as a top priority, the municipal administration, as per the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Iqbal Singh Chahal, has announced a holiday for primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools of all managements (i.e. Nursery to Class 12th) in Mumbai, for tomorrow, Thursday, 20th July 2023," the civic body tweeted.



Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ordered government offices in Mumbai and the neighbouring region to close early to enable employees to reach home safely.

Mumbai is witnessing rainfall for two days now disrupting the vehicular movement as well as the local train services - mainly on central and harbour lines.
