Mumbai Police received a threatening message on Saturday claiming an assassination plot against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The message, which was sent to the Mumbai traffic police helpline via WhatsApp in the early hours of the day, mentioned two alleged ISI agents and a plan to execute a bomb blast targeting the Prime Minister.

Authorities quickly traced the source of the message to a number registered in Ajmer, Rajasthan, and a police team was dispatched to arrest the individual behind it.

While the sender’s identity remains under investigation, officials believe the message could have come from someone mentally disturbed or possibly under the influence of alcohol.

An FIR has been filed under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. This isn't the first time the Mumbai traffic police helpline has received hoax threats, with similar incidents reported in the past. The investigation continues as police work to determine the full extent of the threat.
