Mumbai: 17 patients die in a single day in govt hospital in Thane, report sought, says health minister
Kalwa's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial (CSMM) Hospital was witness to tragedy after 17 patients were reported dead in the span of 24 hours, according to a Times of India report.

The fresh deaths come on the heels of five deaths on August 10, which caused significant outcry in the region.

Reports say that the majority of patients who passed away were admitted to the ICU, but the specifics of the situation are yet to be confirmed by hospital authorities.

Officials say that the circumstances around the deaths are being investigated, with many of the patients supposedly elderly people admitted in critical condition.

According to the TOI report, the CSMM hospital is the lone tertiary level hospital in the city and witnesses a huge rush of patients, especially from the suburbs and neighbouring districts.

Load at this hospital has also increased due to the Civil hospital's patients being shifted here due to renovations.
