Mumbai crane collapse: At least 10 injured as large crane topples onto houses in Kurla

A large crane collapsed on houses in Mumbai's Kurla East area in the early hours of Friday, leaving more than 10 people injured, according to ANI.

Officials told PTI that that the crane collapse has impacted goods train movement on single line Kurla-Trombay route after part of the crane fell on the overhead wires.

The civic officials were preparing for an “eviction operation” when the crane accident occured at around 3 am at Buntara Bhavan, a MHADA building located behind Galaxy Apartment in Indira Nagar.


According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) L-ward staff present at the site, the housing body MHADA was gearing up to launch an “eviction and demolition operation” at the spot. The officials were mounting a crane for the said operation when it toppled onto nearby houses.

Six of the injured citizens were admitted to the civic-run Sion hospital, while others were taken to the nearby Bhabha Hospital, another corporation-run medical facility in Mumbai.

According to hospital authorities quoted by PTI, all the injured persons are in stable condition.

Mumbai fire brigade personnel, police officials, 108 ambulance service and local ward staff were mobilised for the rescue operation following the incident.

The crane collapse in Kurla comes a month after a crane collapsed at JP North Society in Mira Road in Mumbai, claiming the life of one person on the spot.

The incident left several vehicles damaged as Police, Fire Department personnel and other rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
