The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) bus driver has been taken into custody, the official said. "Ambulances, along with the Mumbai Fire Brigade, BEST staff, have been mobilised," the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
"Today, around 09:35 PM, a bus accident occurred near Bhandup West railway station. 13 pedestrians were injured in this incident, who we have sent to the hospital. Out of them, four passengers have died, including 3 women and 1 man... The bus driver is in police custody... A mechanical and technical investigation of the bus will be conducted, only after that will the real cause be known," DCP Hemraj Singh Rajput told reporters.
According to the official, the incident took place at busy Station Road in suburban Bhandup.
The BEST operates a large fleet of buses, covering the city and its neighbouring urban areas.
