In a significant development in the MUDA scam, Parvathi, wife of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has voluntarily surrendered 14 plots of land that were previously allotted to her by the authority.

In a letter addressed to the MUDA officials, Parvathi stated her decision to return the plots and cancel the deeds executed in her name.

The decision to surrender the plots comes after FIR was registered with the Lokayukta and Enforcement Directorate regarding land scam allocations made in favour of the CM and his wife.

The letter, written by Parvathi, reads, "Further, I wish to surrender and return the compensation plots by cancelling the deeds of 14 plots executed in my favour by the Mysore Urban Development Authority. I am also handing over the possession of the plots back to the Mysore Urban Development Authority. Kindly take necessary steps in this regard as soon as possible."

The FIR alleges that compensatory sites were improperly allotted to Siddaramaiah's wife in a more affluent Mysuru area, raising concerns about the legitimacy of the land transactions. The charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) include criminal conspiracy, public servant misconduct, dishonest misappropriation, cheating, and forgery, among others.

Meanwhile, the ED is invoking sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in its case, which allows the agency to summon individuals for questioning and potentially attach assets during the investigation.

Named in the FIR by ED are the chief minister, his wife B.M. Parvathi, brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy, and Devaraju, from whom Swamy purchased land later gifted to Parvathi.

Siddaramaiah has repeatedly denied the charges and asserted that he is being targeted politically. He has also proclaimed that he will not resign with the support of his party leaders, despite repeated calls from the BJP for him to step down from his post at the head of the government.
