A woman was arrested, and her 15-year-old daughter was sent to an observation center on Sunday in Sahibganj district, Jharkhand, for allegedly killing a man who had repeatedly harassed them, according to police reports. The deceased, identified as Raju Mandal, 25, allegedly harassed the mother-daughter duo for two months.

The 40-year-old mother and her 15-year-old daughter told police Mandal had been breaking into their house at night for the past two months and harassing the daughter. They claim they received no help from villagers
A police officer stated, “The 40-year-old woman told us that Raju would regularly break into their house at night in an inebriated state and resort to eve-teasing her 15-year-old daughter. The duo reportedly received no help from villagers, which emboldened his behavior towards them. However, they did not file any complaint with the police regarding the eve-teasing incidents.”

The act of retaliation

Confessing to the charges, the mother and daughter revealed to the police that they wanted to stop Mandal’s repeated intrusions. To protect themselves, they set up a bamboo pole wrapped with exposed electrical wires at the entrance of their house on Saturday night. When Mandal attempted to enter, he came into contact with the live wire and was electrocuted, the police officer added.

Legal proceedings

Following the incident, the woman was arrested, and her minor daughter was detained. Authorities are investigating the case further to determine the circumstances leading to the action taken by the duo.
