New Delhi: The statistics ministry on Friday launched its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which allows users to directly connect to official datasets through their own artificial intelligence (AI) tools and applications. The move will enable users to fetch verified information and insights in real time. AI platforms such as Claude and ChatGPT can now be linked directly to eSankhyiki, the national portal for official statistics. The beta version of the MCP server currently offers seven data products, including the Periodic Labour Force Survey, Consumer Price Index, Annual Survey of Industries, Index of Industrial Production and National Account Statistics, with additional datasets set to be added in the coming months.

"The MCP server is a step towards building the data infrastructure needed for Viksit Bharat," the ministry of statistics and programme implementation (MoSPI) said in a statement.
