After appearance in court, Pramanik said, "I was asked to appear before the court. That is why I have come as a law abiding citizen. Earlier, I could not come due to the ongoing Parliament session."
The court had issued an arrest warrant against Pramanik. The minister's lawyer, Bhaskar De, said, "This is a very old case for which Pramanik was summoned." "The Alipurduar Judicial Third Court had issued an arrest warrant against Nisith Pramanik under IPC sections 457 (house trespass), 383 (extortion), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) among others. The incident took place in 2009 in Alipurduar," sources in the court said.
