Morbi Tragedy: Oreva Group MD Jaysukh Patel named prime accused

Gujarat police named managing director of Oreva Group, Jaysukh Patel, as the prime accused for the suspension bridge collapse in Morbi. The Special Investigation team, which was set up to investigate the incident that took place in October 2022, resulting in 135 fatalities, filed a charge sheet of over 1,000 pages.

Oreva Group was responsible for the maintenance of the bridge.

While the other nine accused, including AMPL managers Deepak Parekh and Dineshbhai Dave, two ticket-booking clerks, three security guards who were posted at the bridge and two private contractors who had carried out the renovation of the bridge between March and October last year, were arrested by the police after the collapse. Jaysukh Patel has been at large so far. Patel is an accused in this case. Chief judicial magistrate of Morbi had issued an arrest warrant on January 13 against Patel under Section 70 of CrPC.


A statement from the police said as many as 367 people have been named as witness in the chargesheet.

Police maintains that it has sufficient evidence against Patel who also has been named as an accused in the case.

The century-old suspension bridge over Machchhu river was one of the prime tourist attractions of the town It was thrown open to public after renovation only four days before the collapse.
