Search operation under way at the sight of bridge collapse in Morbi
The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear on November 14 a PIL seeking direction to immediately appoint a judicial commission under the supervision of retired top court judge to initiate probe into the Morbi Bridge collapse.

A PIL had been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a court-monitored probe in the Morbi bridge collapse incident, which claimed 135 lives. The PIL has sought directions to appoint a Judicial Commission under the supervision of a retired SC judge to probe the incident.

Reportedly, the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by Advocate Vishal Tiwari.

The death toll from Morbi foot bridge collapse rose to 135 on Tuesday with search operations entering a third day, although nearly all those believed to have been missing are now accounted for.

The colonial-era bridge over the Machchhu River in Morbi was packed with sightseers enjoying holiday festivities when it broke on Sunday evening, sending people plunging about 10 metres (33 feet) into the water.

At the time of the collapse, around 200 people were believed to have been on the bridge, which was 1.25 metres wide and 233 metres in length - part of celebrations for the Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals.
