Monsoon to hit Andaman by May 15

Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into South Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal around May 15, the Indian Meteorological Department has said on Thursday.

It is likely to advance over remaining parts of Andaman Sea and many parts of south India and adjoining central Bay of Bengal during the week, it added.

This will be accompanied with fairly widespread to moderate rainfall over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the week.


“Isolated heavy falls are very likely over the region during the second half of the week. Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is also likely over south Andaman Sea on May 15-17,” the department added.

Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh could also get isolated to scattered rainfall activity with isolated thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds.

A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from May 16 causing scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and hail in the region in the following two days.

However, there will be no significant weather likely over remaining parts of the country during the week.
