Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha adjourn sine die amid protests, uproar; here is all that happened this Monsoon Session
The Monsoon session of Parliament concluded with significant disruptions, limiting productive hours to just 37. Despite the chaos, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha managed to pass several key legislations.

Apart from debates on Operation Sindoor in both Houses, much of the session was marked by interruptions.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha on the last day, Speaker Om Birla mentioned that the House had only been able to function and debate important issues for only 37 hours this Monsoon Session.
Opposition parties repeatedly raised demands for discussions on Operation Sindoor and the Special Intensive Revision exercise in poll-bound Bihar, resulting in frequent adjournments.
“This time in Parliament, there was so much ruckus and opposition didn’t cooperate. Due to this obstinate behaviour, opposition missed participating in discussions on several important bills which were passed," a government official told ET
In the Rajya Sabha, except for the Bills of Lading Bill, 2025, which was passed smoothly on the first day of the session, most other bills were cleared either amid heated debate or after opposition walkouts.
Stormy showdown in Lok Sabha
A set of three bills in introduced in the Lok Sabha aiming to amend the Constitution to allow the removal of the prime minister, chief ministers, and ministers who are arrested on serious criminal charges for 30 consecutive days, especially caused considerable uproar in the House a day before it adjourned. The the issue related to the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, along with two companion legislations extending the amendment to Union Territories and Jammu & Kashmir, that were drafted by the Union Home Ministry and were cleared by the Union Cabinet earlier this week.
The bills sparked intense reactions from Opposition parties, reigniting debates over democracy, accountability, and political overreach.
Trinamool Congress MPs stormed the well of the House, with Kalyan Banerjee seen tugging at Shah’s microphone while shouting slogans. BJP members, including parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju and Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, moved to shield the Home Minister as tensions escalated. Papers were torn and flung in the chaos as Shah sought to outline the bill’s intent.
The Home Minister defended the measure, citing his own resignation as Gujarat’s home minister prior to arrest in 2002, stating, “We cannot be so shameless as to continue occupying constitutional positions while facing serious charges.”
Shah proposed referring all three bills to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for detailed scrutiny on Wednesday while tabling it in the Lok Sabha where it was passed. The legislation stipulates that if a sitting PM, CM, or minister is arrested for offences punishable with at least five years’ imprisonment for 30 consecutive days, they would automatically lose office from the 31st day.
The bills were then formally referred to the JPC, with the committee expected to submit its report by the first week of the next session.
