Monsoon reaches Madhya Pradesh; IMD issues orange alert for some districts

Monsoon has reached India's central part Madhya Pradesh today, nearly a week before its normal arrival every year. This is for the first time in recent years that it has hit the state seven days ahead. Several parts of the state, including state capital Bhopal, Jabalpur and Gwalior, have received showers in the last 24 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

Due to continuous rain, the met department has issued orange and yellow alerts for several parts of the state.
The alerts are valid till Friday morning.


Orange alerts are issued for isolated places in districts of Jabalpur and Shahdol divisions, where heavy rain, thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at the speed of 30 to 40 KMPH are expected. Similar forecasts are also released for six districts, including Betul and Khandwa.

A yellow alert of thunderstorms with lightning and wind gusts at the speed of 30 to 40 KMPH are issued for isolated places in Bhopal, Sagar and Gwalior and two other divisions. Nine districts including Indore are also likely to witness similar weather conditions, the IMD forecasted.
