Mon incident was abuse & misuse of AFSPA: Nagaland CM Rio

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Thursday said Saturday's incident of Mon was misuse and abuse of the Armed Forces (Special Power) Act, 1958 .

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Thursday said Saturday's incident of Mon was misuse and abuse of the Armed Forces (Special Power) Act, 1958 .

He said such incidents violate human rights. Addressing in Kohima, the CM appealed to the people not to retaliate against anyone in connection with the tragic incident. He asked people to stay away from violence and show the nation that AFSPA is not needed.

“The society cannot allow any force to derail the hard won peace process," he said. Former Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang said that no amount of reason can justify the killing of innocent civilians.


Zeliang said that when the Nagas were anticipating the final breakthrough in the ongoing peace talks over Naga political issues before this incident happened.
