Recently, speculations surfaced suggesting that Virat Kohli, the former India skipper, had opted out of the first two Test matches against England in the ongoing series due to his mother's alleged illness. Responding to this, Vikas emphasized the importance of reliable information. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially confirmed Kohli's withdrawal from the first two Tests due to personal reasons.
The BCCI, in an official statement, urged both the media and fans to respect Kohli's privacy during this challenging time and refrained from speculating on the nature of his personal reasons. In the absence of Kohli, India faced a 28-run loss against England in the first Test match held in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Recapping the initial Test, India, after dominating the game for the most part, faced a turnaround on Day 3. England's Ollie Pope, with his remarkable knock of 196, not only nullified India's lead but also set a defendable target on a challenging surface. Debutant Tom Hartley showcased a brilliant performance, claiming 7/62 in India's second innings.
Hartley's outstanding debut figures are the best for an England spinner since 1945. Furthermore, he became the fourth England spinner to secure a five-wicket haul on Test debut in this century. As the series progresses, India will be eager for redemption after trailing 1-0. It is crucial for all stakeholders to rely on verified information, ensuring accuracy and sensitivity in reporting during such times.
