Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday wrote personal letters to several leaders of the Islamic countries and wished them on Eid al-Adha, in what can be viewed as an outreach following the controversy over suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma's remarks on the Prophet.

The list of countries include Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE, Kuwait, Algeria, Morocco, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Iraq, Turkey and Palestine among others.

In his letter to the Indonesian President Joko Widodo whom he met last month, Modi mentioned about his visit to Bali later this year for the G20 summit. Modi also recently visited the UAE on his way back from Germany and met the newly appointed President with whom he shares a strong chemistry.

In his letters, Modi conveyed that through the holy festival of Eid, two hundred million Indians of Islamic faith celebrate universal message of love, piety, sacrifice and forgiveness.

The prime minister in his letters prayed for peace, harmony and fraternity among all people in service of greater good and humanity.
