Modi to host Putin in Delhi by year-end, says Russian embassy official

Russian President Vladimir Putin and India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet in New Delhi by the end of year, but no dates have been finalised yet, a Russian embassy official in India told news agency Reuters on August 20.

The highly-anticipated meeting comes at a critical time for both nations. As geopolitical tensions escalate globally in the wake of Trump's unprecedented unsettling of diplomatic traditions, the war in Ukraine and shifting alliances, the discussions between these two leaders are expected to cover a wide range of issues, likely including trade, defence and energy cooperation.

In recent months, India has maintained a delicate balance in its foreign policy, navigating its relationships with major powers like the United States and Russia. The upcoming talks are likely to reinforce the longstanding ties between India and Russia, which have historically been characterised by strategic partnerships in defence and technology.


It may be noted here that India has been a significant purchaser of Russian military equipment, and this meeting could pave the way for further collaboration in this sector.
