Modi praises Trump’s role in Gaza efforts, vows India’s strong support for just peace

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised US President Donald Trump for his proposed Gaza peace plan, calling it a “significant step” toward ending the ongoing conflict. Sharing a post on X, Modi said:

“We welcome President Trump’s leadership as peace efforts in Gaza make decisive progress. Indications of the release of hostages mark a significant step forward.”

He added that India would “continue to strongly support all efforts towards a durable and just peace.”


The comments come as Trump pushes for a breakthrough in the Gaza crisis, with hopes focused on the release of hostages and renewed talks between Israel and Hamas.

Trump Issues Ultimatum to Hamas

On Friday, Trump warned Hamas to agree to the peace deal with Israel by Sunday, 6 PM Washington DC time. He threatened:

“If this LAST CHANCE agreement is not reached, all HELL, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas. THERE WILL BE PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.”

Trump also urged Palestinians to move out of conflict zones in case intensified strikes are necessary if Hamas rejects the deal.

Key Points of the 20-Point Gaza Peace Plan

Trump announced the peace plan earlier this week alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. The key measures include:

• Demilitarized Gaza – Gaza will become a terror-free zone with no threat to neighbouring countries.
• Infrastructure Redevelopment – The region will be rebuilt to improve living conditions, including hospitals, bakeries, and public utilities.
• Immediate Ceasefire – If both sides accept, Israel will halt operations, and hostages will be prepared for release.
• Hostage Exchange – Within 72 hours of Israel’s approval, all hostages, alive or deceased, will be returned.
• Prisoner Releases – Israel will free 250 prisoners serving life sentences and 1,700 Gazans detained after October 7, 2023.
• Hamas Amnesty and Safe Passage – Members who disarm and commit to peace will receive amnesty; others can leave Gaza safely.
• Humanitarian Aid – Aid will flow immediately, managed by the UN, Red Crescent, and neutral agencies.
• Temporary Governance – A technocratic Palestinian committee, overseen by a new international “Board of Peace” chaired by Trump, will manage Gaza temporarily.
• Economic Recovery – An economic plan and special trade zones will help rebuild Gaza, create jobs, and attract investment.
• Freedom of Movement – Residents will not be forced to leave Gaza and may return freely.
• Demilitarization and Oversight – All weapons will be destroyed under international monitoring.
• International Stabilization Force – The ISF will train Palestinian police and secure borders with Egypt and Israel.
• Gradual IDF Withdrawal – Israeli forces will pull back as security improves, leaving a limited security perimeter.
• Ongoing Aid Despite Hamas Rejection – Redevelopment will continue in areas free from terror.
• Interfaith Dialogue – Programs will encourage coexistence and tolerance.
• Path to Palestinian Self-Determination – Reforms may allow progress toward statehood under a long-term political framework.
• US Mediation – The United States will support ongoing Israel-Palestine talks to ensure peaceful coexistence and prosperity.

Hamas Responds to Peace Proposal

Hamas has stated it is willing to release all Israeli prisoners, both living and deceased, according to an exchange formula, provided the proper conditions are met. The group also remains cautious about governance and disarmament, signalling the need for further negotiations.
