Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the student-led research initiatives of Bengaluru-based Prayoga Institute of Education Research, citing its flagship Anveshana programme during his Mann Ki Baat address.

Modi said deeper engagement between students and science fosters stronger learning outcomes, and commended Prayoga for making scientific research accessible to school students nationwide. The institute enables students in Grades 9–12 to undertake research across disciplines such as chemistry, earth sciences and wellness, offering hands-on exposure and platforms to publish their work.

Referring to interactions during Pariksha Pe Charcha, Modi noted that many students perceive science as intimidating. “Initiatives like Prayoga help students connect with science and demonstrate learning practically. When students explore on their own, curiosity develops naturally. Some may go on to become outstanding scientists,” he said.

He added that Anveshana promotes research as a pedagogy, allowing students to move beyond rigid curricula and engage in authentic scientific inquiry, while building critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.

Prayoga founder HS Nagaraja, while thanking the PM for acknowledging the team’s work, said the organisation currently reaches over 12,000 government school students through experiential learning models. “We are democratising access to research opportunities at the school level, free of cost,” he said, adding that the initiative is guided by a committee chaired by former Chief Justice MN Venkatachaliah.

Since its launch in 2022, Anveshana has supported multiple student-led research projects under scientist mentorship, providing access to laboratory infrastructure and exposure to real-world scientific challenges, the organisation said.
