Asserting that India is proud to be a key partner in Bhutan's development journey, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a meeting with Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, discussing cooperation in sectors like energy, capacity building, connectivity, technology, defence and security.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held wide-ranging discussions with the Fourth King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, in Thimphu on ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

"Had a wonderful meeting with His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. Appreciated his extensive efforts over the years towards further cementing India-Bhutan ties. Discussed cooperation in energy, trade, technology and connectivity. Lauded the progress in the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project, which aligns with our Act East Policy," PM Modi said on X.

The PM conveyed full support for the realisation of the Gelephu Mindfulness City project and announced the decision to establish an immigration check post in Hatisar, Assam, to facilitate easy movement of investors and visitors to Gelephu.


On the previous day, at the first meeting with the current or the Fifth King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk during the PM's two-day trip to Bhutan, both leaders welcomed the active role of Indian companies in hydropower projects in Bhutan.

The Bhutanese side expressed appreciation for the Indian government's announcement of a concessional line of credit of Rs 4,000 crore to fund energy projects in Bhutan, according to a joint press release issued on Wednesday.
