Modi and Saudi Crown Prince discuss Red Sea & Indian Ocean region after drone attack on ship carrying Saudi oil to India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, amid the tense situation in the Red Sea region and drone attack on the ship carrying Saudi oil to India.

The two leaders agreed to work together for peace, security and stability in the region. They also emphasised the need for maintaining the maritime security and the freedom of navigation.

The leaders reviewed progress in bilateral Strategic Partnership in follow-up to State visit of the Crown Prince to India in September 2023. They also discussed the forward-looking bilateral partnership agenda for the future, according to a government statement.


The leaders exchanged views on the current situation in West Asia. They shared deep concerns at terrorism, violence and the loss of civilian lives.

The Prime Minister reiterated India’s long-standing and principled position on the Israel-Palestine issue and called for continued humanitarian aid for the affected population.

Prime Minister conveyed greetings to Saudi Arabia on being selected as host for Expo 2030 and FIFA Football World Cup 2034. The two leaders agreed to remain in touch.

Modi has been in touch with several leaders of the West Asian region since the beginning of the Hamas-Israel conflict and recently spoke with the Israeli PM.
