Trouble in NDA's world?
Shrirang Barne, an MP of Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, on Monday expressed disappointment over the party not getting a Cabinet berth in the newly-formed Narendra Modi-led government and alleged partiality. Shiv Sena Party Leader in Lok Sabha Shrikant Shinde, however, clarified that the party was supporting the government unconditionally and no bargaining or negotiation for power was involved.
"Shiv Sena is an old ally of BJP. We were expecting one Cabinet seat besides MoS. We are the third largest ally of BJP. Other allies with far lesser seats have got Cabinet berths. Personally, I feel that we have been discriminated against in the Cabinet allocation," said Shrirang Barne, Shiv Sena MP from Maval constituency. He said "feelings" have been conveyed to Shinde.
Not just Shiv Sena, Ajit Pawar's NCP is also dissapointed over allocation of cabinet berths. Praful Patel said on Sunday that accepting the position of Minister of State (MoS) with independent charge in the Union Cabinet will be considered a demotion for him, as he was earlier a Cabinet Minister in the UPA Government headed by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
"Last night we were informed that our party will get a Minister of State with independent charge. I was earlier a Cabinet Minister in the Union Government, so this will be a demotion for me. We have informed the BJP leadership and they have already told us to just wait a few days, they will take remedial measures," Patel told reporters.
As per the results announced by the Election Commission of India on Tuesday, the BJP won 240 seats and the Congress 99 seats. BJP had won 303 seats in the 2019 general elections and 282 seats in the 2014 general elections.
