Sri Vijaya Puram: The Directorate of Disaster Management in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will conduct a mock drill on earthquake and tsunami on Monday, officials said.

The mock drill will start at 9:30 am and conclude at 11:30 am.

The exercise will be carried out in coordination with all emergency support functionaries, the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), the officials said.

The primary objective of the mock drill is to test the effectiveness of disaster communication systems, coordination among various government departments and emergency response agencies during earthquake and tsunami situations, they said.

As part of the simulation, emergency sirens will be activated at designated locations on Monday to demonstrate the early warning dissemination system.

All essential services and routine public activities will continue as usual during the exercise, a senior official said.
