BJP, in a bid to bring new enthusiasm and rejuvenate the grassroot workers, have brought major changes in the selection of district Presidents.
In a major backlash, the MLAs from the Matua community have allegedly expressed disgruntlement over non-inclusion of Matuas in the state committee. The BJP Bengal has made major changes, replacing at least 30 district Presidents.

At least five MLAs from the Matua community, including Subrata Thakur and Ashok Kirtaniya, have left the BJP’s whatsapp group of the party after selection of the new state committee and were unhappy after there was no representation of the Matua community in the newly formed state committee, a BJP source said. However, the Matua MLAs refused to comment on the issue. The five MLAs, who are aggrieved with their omission of the Matua representation are MLAs Mukutmoni Adhikari (Ranaghat South), Subrata Thakur (Gaighata), Ambica Roy (Kalyani), Asok Kirtania (Bongaon North), and Asim Sarkar (Haringhata). -- expressed their displeasure over their omission from the state committee.

BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar said, “After every change or formation of new committees, these minor things crop up. We will discuss and sort this out.” However, it is learnt that the MoS Shantanu Thakur is likely to take this issue up with the BJP central leadership in New Delhi. Shantanu Thakur has spoken to BJP National President J P Nadda on the issue, sources said.


On the other hand, BJP, in a bid to bring new enthusiasm and rejuvenate the grassroot workers, have brought major changes in the selection of district Presidents. At least 30 new faces were brought in as new District Presidents, replacing the old ones, following detailed review of the poll debacle starting from West Bengal assembly polls and then by-poll and the recent Kolkata Corporation Election.

BJP also held a closed-door review meeting which was convened by Bengal in-charge Amit Malviya and Agnimitra Paul. Borough-wise evaluation was done and the KMC candidates spoke about their difficulties, violence and other issues. The candidates, who were defeated in the KMC polls, deliberated about the reasons for failure. “There was discussion related to organisational and internal issues,” said a party leader.
