The rescuers in Mizoram on Tuesday recovered eight bodies following the caving in of the stone quarry at Maudarh in southern Mizoram's Hnahthial district.

At least 15 workers were trapped in the stone quarry of a private company. Hnahthial district's Additional Superintendent of Police Vijoy Gurung said that till late afternoon on Tuesday eight bodies had been recovered and search was on .“Continuance of the search and rescue operation is very difficult after the evening. Big stone boulders and other challenges are causing troubles to the rescuers.”

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga tweeted: “Search and rescue operations at quarry landslide, Maudarh village are being carried out tirelessly. My heart goes out to the victims of this unfortunate incident. Our gratitude to the Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi Ji who conveyed his condolences via telephone.”
