Mizoram Chief Minister, Zoramthanga has written to Prime minister Narendra Modi requesting his kind intervention for Government of India to buy the entire vaccine requirements and make equitable distributions to all the states adding that the special category states like Mizoram are provided with vaccines free of charge.

The Chief Minister in a letter stated, “While most parts of India appear to have reached a stage where the new cases of COVID-19 are declining, North East India is still witnessing an increasing trend of new cases. The pandemic puts serious stress on the resources of the country and this has far more severe impacts on small states with small resource bases like Mizoram.”

He added, “On top of this, we are now required to buy the vaccines for the 18 - 44 age group, which puts more stress on our meagre resources. I have written yesterday to the Prime Minister requesting his kind intervention for the Government of India to buy the entire vaccine requirements and make equitable distributions to all the states. I also requested that the special category states like Mizoram be provided with vaccines free of charge by the Government of India. I also requested all the North East Chief Ministers to take a similar line of action, so as to present a united front to the Government of India”.

There is a shortage of vaccine supply. Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday stated Assam would receive 7 lakh doses of Covid vaccine in June, the Chief Minister said that inoculation drive of 18-44 age group people would speed up in the state after receiving the doses and exuded confidence that a sizeable portion of state’s population would be provided jabs by August 15.

Sarma on Saturday said, “As per the government of India in May vaccine production was to the tune of 7 Crore, this will increase to eight to nine Crore in June and July the production will be almost double.”
