Mithun Chakraborty to be honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award; PM Modi, others congratulate actor
Indian actor Mithun Chakraborty will be awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, according to an announcement by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Minister Vaishnaw shared the announcement on his official X account, stating, “Mithun Da's remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema.”
Recently, Mithun Chakraborty was also awarded the Padma Bhushan, further cementing his legacy in the film industry. Known affectionately as 'Mithun Da' by his fans, he made his acting debut in 1976 with the film 'Mrigayaa,' where he portrayed a Santhal rebel, earning the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance.
Throughout his career, he has received two additional National Film Awards for his roles in 'Tahader Katha' (1992) and 'Swami Vivekananda' (1998). Besides his acting accolades, Mithun is celebrated for his contributions to the music industry, especially his iconic dance tracks like 'I Am a Disco Dancer,' 'Jimmy Jimmy,' and 'Super Dancer,' which continue to resonate with audiences today.
Most recently, he appeared in Vivek Agnihotri's critically acclaimed film 'The Kashmir Files,' further showcasing his enduring talent in Indian cinema.
PM Modi, other leaders congratulate veteran actor
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Chakraborty on being conferred with the esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award honouring his contributions to Indian cinema.In a post on X, the PM said that he was delighted by the honour given to Chakraborty and commended him as a "cultural icon."
"Delighted that Mithun Chakraborty Ji has been conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognising his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema. He is a cultural icon, admired across generations for his versatile performances. Congratulations and best wishes to him," PM Modi said in the post.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik also congratulated veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty.
"Congratulate versatile actor #MithunChakraborty on being selected to receive the prestigious #DadasahebPhalke Award. He has essayed many memorable roles on screen including in Odia cinema," Patnaik wrote on X.
