Misleading propaganda: MEA on 'threat to Dhaka mission' report

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday termed as 'misleading propaganda' reports from Dhaka that the Bangladesh high commission in New Delhi was subject to a threat by protesters who allegedly tried to breach its security perimeter. India has also said that it is keeping a close watch on developments in Bangladesh and has conveyed strong concerns on attacks on minorities.

"There was no attempt to breach the fence or create a security situation at any time. The police stationed at the spot dispersed the group after a few minutes. Visual evidence of these events is available publicly for all to see. India is committed to ensure the safety of foreign missions/posts in its territory in accordance with the Vienna Convention," a ministry statement read.

Taking strong note of the reports, the ministry said that the mission was never under any security threat and that the police worked efficiently to disperse protestors who were raising slogans against the killing of a Hindu Bandaldeshi, Dipu Chandra Das, in Mymensingh. It added India has urged Bangladesh to bring the murderers of Das to justice. Das was allegedly lynched for blasphemy, according to reports from Bangladesh.


"Our officials remain in touch with Bangladesh authorities and have conveyed to them our strong concerns at the attacks on minorities," the MEA statement read.
