The Supreme Court heard on December 13 the plea of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) regarding misleading claims and advertisements against "Allopathic" medicine.

A Bench comprising Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Pankaj Mithal asked amicus Curia Shadhan Farast to give a brief note on the issues involved in the case, details of orders passed so far and compliances made to these orders. The next date of hearing ws set for January 15.

Since it is a new bench, the judges want to understand the matter, the bench said.

The case pertains to a petition filed by the Indian Medical Association seeking action against Patanjali for allegedly conducting a smear campaign against modern medicine and the Covid-19 vaccination drive.

The top court had taken action against Patanjali and the Ramdev-Balkrishna duo for disobeying its orders and asked it to publish advertisements in newspapers apologising for the same. At the same time, it also pulled up certain doctors practising modern medicine.
