Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that the situation in West Asia won't stabilise unless justice is delivered to the people of Palestine and that the US build-up in the region seemed to be a preparation for an attack on Iran.

Addressing the Friday congregation at the Jama Masjid in Srinagar, he said the plight of the people of occupied Palestine facing persecution at the hands of Israel kept getting worse.

Mirwaiz further said, "Israel in its arrogance is destabilising the entire region with the heavy US military build-up in the region in preparation for what many observers see as an imminent attack on Iran."

This, he said, was ominous not only for the region but the world.

Mirwaiz also stated that the news coming from the neighbourhood was disturbing. "Two Muslim states, Pakistan and Afghanistan, are fighting each other, that too in the holy month of Ramzan. Wars only cause grief and loss of life," he said. "I hope that better sense will prevail and that both neighbours resolve their differences through dialogue and good neighbourly principles, the path shown to us by the Prophet."
